Inauguration Fashion: Michelle Obama

Yesterday, I had the wonderful honor of attending the second swearing-in ceremony of president Barack Obama at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. The ceremony was exciting especially the fashion of First Lady Michelle Obama!

In the last four years, Michelle Obama has become a true fashion icon. I was completely in love with the outfit she wore to the ceremony: a navy checkered-patterned dress and coat designed by Thom Browne. Browne’s design inspiration for the outfit was a mans suit tie. The dress and coat are pre-fall 2013 Thom Browne and Reed Krakoff boots are not exactly affordable. The dress and coat are priced in the thousands and the boots are nearly five hundred dollars…The First Lady wore it, not surprising!

The accessories were my favorite! Boots by Reed Krakoff, a jeweled belt and a pop of color cashmere-lined leather gloves both from J.Crew. Each piece is so classic and can be worn separately or all together. The bright colored gloves were a nice added touch and shows her unique style. The actual color gloves that Mrs.Obama wore and the jeweled belt (which is actually a sash from the bridal department) are currently sold out…I included alternatives below for remaking the major parts of the outfit on a dime. What Do You Think of Michelle Obama’s Outfit?
